Verdant Energies is referenced to biblical and scientific perceptions of creation. There are seven female figures representing the seven days "God" created the earth and also the different stages of evolution. I used the female figure because I believe "God" could be a female creater who gave birth to the world. I also used green glaze representing growth.
"Ceil Leeper Sturdevant continues her passion with the human firgure, mostly female. Her show is full of ideas: primordial and exultant. In some ways, Sturdevant's images, particularly the stark ones, suggest fetishes of her own creation but touching on different cultures and fueled by her travels. Sturdevant puts a sense of root like growth and curvaceous femininity into many of her pieces, and in the process updates Alberto Giacometti’s rigidity. Vertically hanging forms suggest twisted narwhal horns, weathered bone or giant screws. They are all clearly objects of the imagination..."
