This altar is a celebration of the Greek Goddess, Hera and the creative female power that she engendered.
In the summer of 1999 at the School of the Agean, on the island of Samos, I learned that after the 8th Century BC Hera's powers were fragmented and divided amoung several goddesses. This was probably because as Greek culture became more patriarchal, religious authorities did not want Hera to be as powerful as Zeus.
Fragmentation of Hera celebrates the sacred feminine that was once embodied in Hera.
