Three Virtues is a reference to the age old saying, "Hear no evil. see no evil, speak no evil." When viewing the work you will see strong texture lines on the eyes of one of the figures, ears of one of the figures, and mouth of one of the figures. The figure with the strong textured lines on the eyes exploded in the kiln exactly on the eye area.
Sometimes viewers ask me, " Why don't you fill in the exploded eye area with epoxy?" My response is, "The kiln's mark on the piece is better than I could have done."
As a clay artist you become one with your kiln after many firings.
